Blossoming Chestnut Branches is an oil on canvas that was painted in 1890 by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh.
Vincent died just a few months after painting Blossoming Chestnut Branches.
Vincent was staying in Auvers-sur-Oise where he was receiving treatment from Dr. Gachet.
Gachet himself was a hobby artist.
Van Gogh was suffering from depression and other emotional and mental problems.
Vincent had arranged some blooming chestnut branches and some pink rhododendrons in a vase for the painting.
Note the bold use of colours by Vincent in Blossoming Chestnut Branches.
Vincent gave the painting as a gift to Dr. Gachet.
The painting has an interesting history in that it was stolen on February 10, 2008 but later recovered on February 18.
