CAFE TERRACE AT NIGHT

Cafe Terrace at Night, also known as The Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum, is an oil on canvas painting by Vincent van Gogh. Vincent completed the painting in September 1888 in Arles, France.

For unkown reasons Van Gogh never signed the painting, but he did describe the painting in letters he wrote on a number of occasions. There is also a pen drawing of the composition from the artist's estate.

Cafe Terrace at Night was first exhibited in 1892, and titled, Coffeehouse, in the evening (Café, le soir). It is important to note that this was the first painting that Vincent used the starry backgrounds.
