Van Gogh had shifted to Arles in 1888 and loved it there. He loved the outdoors and Arles had plenty of cornfields which Vincent painted.

Cornfields Near Arles is considered by some to be one of the best works of Van Gogh. Vincent depicts sweeping cornfields in yellows, oranges and golds as the sun is setting towards night. Van Gogh paints a bold sun that is setting in a sort of mystical night sky.
