FARMS NEAR AUVERS

Farms near Auvers or (Thatched Cottages by a Hill), is an oil on canvas that was painted by Vincent van Gogh during the summer of 1890. Vincent died before he completed the work. When one looks at, Farms near Auvers, you can still see some areas of raw canvas.

The painting depicts the cottages within the hills around Auvers-sur-Oise. Van Gogh chose a very high point of view to do this painting which gave him a clear view.

Vincent has used a thin application of paint in this work. Another interesting feature of Farms near Auvers is how the cottages are mimicked in the way Van Gogh paints the fields and hills.
