Van Gogh loved the open fields and loved flowers such as the poppies. Vincent was in a difficult state of mind at this time in his life and it is expressed here in Field of Poppies, Auvers-Sur-Oise.

The Poppy fields have an intense loneliness. The blue sky above is almost blocked out by strokes of green. A strong wind is sweeping across the Poppy field and the poppies seem to have no control over their environment. Maybe Vincent felt the same way, that he also had no control over his life.
