FIRST STEPS

First Steps by Vincent van Gogh was painted in the beginning of 1890 by the Dutch artist during his stay in Saint Remy. It was the last year of his life.

In First Steps, Vincent depicts a young child taking their first steps. The mother helps the child as the father reaches out for her.

Note the softer colours and softer brush strokes Vincent uses here in this painting compared to others at the same time.
