FISHING BOATS ON THE BEACH AT SAINTES-MARIES

Fishing Boats on the Beach at Saintes-Maries by Vincent van Gogh was done by the post-impressionist artist during 1888.

Van Gogh had went to Les Saintes Maries-de-la-Mer during the month of May. It was here that Vincent completed nine drawings which he later used on his return to Arles to do some paintings.

Van Gogh had completed the drawings early in the morning before the boats had set sail. Fishing Boats on the Beach at Saintes-Maries in some ways seems vastly different from many of the other works of Vincent in that he has clearly defined things within the painting and used a high degree of control in his brush strokes.
