LANDSCAPE WITH OLIVE TREES

Landscape with Olive Trees by Vincent van Gogh was painted by the Dutch artist in 1889 in Saint Remy.

Vincent uses strong colours and defined brushstrokes in Landscape with Olive Trees. A trademark blue sky in the background with a swirling yellow cloud. Swirls were starting to become more common in Van Gogh`s work.

The olive trees and the mountain seem to be almost forming a barrier to the outside world for Vincent. Vincent states in letters to his brother Theo that he painted, Landscape with Olive Trees, as a sort of daylight partner to his now famous painting, The Starry Night. Van Gogh is not restricted here in Landscape with Olive Trees, he has shown no boundaries. The trees and scorched Earth withering under a hot day. Vincent was in a troubled state of mind and was in the asylum when he did this painting.
