LONG GRASS WITH BUTTERFLIES

Long Grass with Butterflies by Vincent van Gogh was painted in 1890, the last year of the Dutch post-impressionist`s life.

Van Gogh loved the land around Arles and did a number of paintings there. It is amazing how Vincent can see things other artists miss. Long Grass with Butterflies is a simple painting of overgrown grass with butterflies. But Vincent turns it into something beautiful.

Towards the far end of the painting you can just notice a small country road. Van Gogh uses a wide pallet of greens in painting the long grass. It was near the end of Van Gogh`s stay at Saint-Remy that he painted Long Grass with Butterflies.
