Self Portraits by Vincent van Gogh

During his life Vincent Van Gogh painted a number of Self Portraits. It almost seems like Vincent wanted us to see the real him through these Self Portraits.

Self-representation within Impressionism art was something that happened in the later stages. It was both van Gogh and Cézanne that promoted this.

Van Gogh produced around thirty Self Portraits in the short space of around just five years. Vincent painted the first Self Portrait in 1886. After he had just shaved, Van Gogh painted, "Self-Portrait without beard". In 1998, it sold for $71.5 million dollars.
