Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh is the subject of a series of still life paintings by the Dutrch artist.
The original title, which was in French was, Tournesols.
In 1887, While Van Gogh was in Paris, he painted a series of four still life using sunflowers.
In 1888 when Van Gogh was living in Arles southern France, he painted two similar paintings with twelve sunflowers in a vase.
Then Vincent painted three similar Sunflower paintings with fifteen sunflowers in a vase in 1889.
Vincent mentions his love of Sunflowers in a number of letters.
In a letter Vincent wrote to his sister in August 1888, he writes, "intends to decorate the whole studio with nothing but sunflowers".
One of the Sunflower paintings was given to his friend and painter Paul Gauguin.
