THE OLIVE GROVE

The Olive Grove by Vincent van Gogh was completed by the artist during 1889. It is an oil on canvas that Vincent painted during his stay in Saint-Remy. Vincent was staying in the asylum in Saint-Remy at this time, and he painted the olive trees near the wall of the asylum.

Van Gogh uses strong defining colours in The Olive Grove. The olive trees are set against a blue-green-orange sky.

In all, Vincent painted around 15 paintings of olive orchards. Van Gogh went into great detail defining the shapes of the trunks of the olive trees.
